Newsletter SEVEN – The Experience

Living in the country I’ve learned the importance of water. Not just that it’s a sacred and scarce commodity out here but also that it’s tough to keep it flowing around the property. Needs all kinds of tanks, pumps, hoses and systems for the plants, the house plumbing and the pool. It’s a world away from London, UK, where I lived most of my life. There you just take all that stuff for granted or pay someone else to take care of it.

I’ve often thought it strange that many musicians who come from working class roots eventually want to be lord of the manor and, like me, end up tending to their land and enjoying a closeness to nature. Oh, and building recording studios in old shearing sheds.

That’s a big part of why I wrote Redback Country, a song about South Australia and our property in Warnertown. You can hear the track and about my love for the country here:

Currently working on another song called Hey Now – this one is about Covid and how we can’t let this thing get to us. We’ve got to ride it out and look forward to the positive when it has passed (if it ever does!)

Thanks for listening. See you soon.
